238 | The Old Settlers of Monroe County, Indiana In order to qualify for this list (recorded at the courthouse) the applicant had to be fifty years of age and thirty years a resident of the county on September 17, 1858. In the case of many of those listed, the remark "Dead" was added. This was in the same handwriting as the name entry so it is conceivable those individuals may have been deceased at the time they "applied" for the listing or shortly thereafter. Various modifications of the rules were added and appear within the list. Admitted at second meeting, Sept. 17,1859: 144.
